Nine cities to compete for the European Capital of Innovation 2016

On 21 January, the European Commission announced the final competitors for the European Capital of Innovation 2016. 

The nine finalists are:  Amsterdam, Berlin, Eindhoven, Glasgow, Milan, Oxford, Paris, Torino and Vienna. The Commissioner also considers the achievements of each of nine shortlisted cities to be “outstanding in their own right” and he expects that they “will encourage many others to invest in their innovation ecosystems.”

Chinese smart city achievements showcased at the Lisbon-hosted ICT 2015

Several Chinese smart city achievements were showcased during a workshop at the Lisbon-hosted ICT 2015.

The achievements showcased were associated with either the EU-China IST project, the China-Europe Public Administration project or the EU-China Smartcities project.

Showcasing was designed to inspire as much teach.

E-FORUM To Lead ICT2015 Networking Session For EU Smart City Application Within Chinese Smart Cities

E-FORUM is set to lead an ICT2015 (Lisbon, 20-22 October) networking session showcasing successful EU smart city applications within the leading Chinese smart cities and providing an opportunity for interested European parties to secure future across-China deployment.

The session will principally utilise a “Dragon’s Den” format - a format which, by introducing a number of SMEs to Chinese companies and smart cities, proved successful during the UK-China Smart Cities project.

The report "EU-China Smart and Green City Cooperation, Comparative Study of Smart Cities in Europe and China" which was prepared for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is now available for download by following this link.

Delegation of Chinese experts to visit Issy-les-Moulineaux, France

As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Franco-Chinese diplomatic relations and as France anticipates the official visit of the Chinese President at the end of March 2014, a large delegation led by the national leader in smart cities projects in China, Professor Xiong, will be welcomed to the town of Issy-les-Moulineaux. There, the delegation will be shown the town's eco-neighborhoods of IssyGrid as well as current smart mobility projects.

China, EU to enhance cooperation on urbanisation


Li Keqiang addressed the closing ceremony of the 2013 China-EU Urbanisation Partnership Forum, saying that the country will respect and protect the rights of rural people, and strive for sustainable urbanisation.

The Chinese premier urged China and the EU to deepen cooperation in many aspects, especially among enterprises, to jointly improve city design, public services and historical and cultural relic preservation.
